ST-06017 Loquat yellow field-yellow stone seal with corvine skin and handle of ancient beast, Qing dynasty (1644-1911)

The seal performed square and standard shape. Black corvine skin appeared in various shades by exterior. There was an amusing contrast with inner texture in loquat yellow.

 

Seal handle contained two sitting beasts. The big beast was facing right rear and got features of protruding eyes and nose, open mouth, revealed teeth, and backward hair along with furcated horns. Furthermore, other traits were hunched back, strong muscle, sharp claws, and coiling tail around small beast. The other small beast was looking upward with traits of open mouth and revealed teeth. The two communing beasts expressed sincere adoration. This great and distinct piece demonstrated not only exquisite carving but vividness.

 

Four seal sides were engraved with a pair of Chidragon by low relief that displayed different impression. Meticulous carving conveyed lively themes such as chasing pearl, roaming in the sky, pursuit, and bustling.

Relief seal bottom stated 14 characters in the meaning of Ouyang Xiu and Zhao Ming-chen are proficient in   Epigraphy. Du Fu and Han Yu innovate literature.
